
Scott Broome, Principal
Scott Broome serves as the founding principal of Rocky River Elementary. A native Charlottean, Broome has spent his entire professional career wtih Union County Public Schools. Most recently, he served as the principal of Western Union Elementary School. He has also been an assistant principal and classroom teacher.

While a classroom teacher, Mr. Broome served as a 'Model Teacher' in the areas of reading, writing and math. Mr. Broome's classroom served as a learning lab for area teachers. In 1992, he was selected as Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Broome and his wife Teresa live in Charlotte. Teresa is a Literacy Facilitator at Walter Bickett Elementary School. They have one daughter, Katie, who attends The University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
Ashley Hurley, Assitant Principal and Special Needs Administrator
Mrs. Ashley Hurley was born in Charlotte and raised in Union County. She has two boys, Jacob and Adam, ages 9 and 6. She enjoys running, cooking, football, baseball, and spending time with family and friends. Mrs. Hurley is excited about running with the rest of the Rocky River Roadrunners as they race toward success!

Jamie Benfield, Assistant Principal and Title I Coordinator
Mrs. Benfield is proud to work with Union County Public Schools, and formerly worked in Cabarrus County School District. Most recently, she completed the Master of School Administration program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Mrs. Benfield shares with us the following experiences:

Mrs. Benfield played volleyball for Appalachian State University and has coached for 11 years with Carolina Juniors Volleyball and the public school system. In 2007 she was named Union County Coach of the Year. She is currently a Doctoral Student at Wingate University studying Educational Leadership. Mrs. Benfield and her husband, Michael, live in the Charlotte area. They have one daughter, Michaela, who is 3 years old.
